Im gonna live in my cave in J Tree this wintertime no matter what yous say (I left a cooler buried in a crack in a rock backside my cave, I gotta go back!). Anyway, with the passing of my Dad, I no longer have that user-friendly home base to rely on. So my questions are: 1. What do you practise for an address? This seems to be the almost confusing. I dont know what state I am a resident of, if any? I have a Montana drivers license from when I lived out there but have since moved from the address on my license. Is it fraud to just get ahead and use that address anyhow and register in Montana? I mean I DID live at that place at one point.. 2. How exercise you register a car? Accept to exist resident in state where you lot register? Ideally I'd like to pick a state that averages lower car insurance rates than others. Im sure other questions will arise, but thats where Im at now. I inherited my Dad'due south 06 Borough and volition now need to transfer the championship to me and to register it and all that. When I used the "I don't have a fixed residence" line, near people (state, insurance co, etc) would tell me they can't assistance me. This requires a friend in a fairly stock-still location nearby. You lot tin annals out of state and it is an absolute hurting. It took me several telephone calls to have the plates sent to a hotel. Call upwards the DMV and get instructions from them. Tell them you're working out of state or such and they'll permit yous send in a pre-addressed/paid package with your cashier's check and mail your plates back. I call up the requirements for a resident are something like an address in state, employment, and billing statement. It varies though. The state website should have the requirements on their website. -- Flag Quote |
| | Marking NH · Aug 10, 2015 · 03053 · Joined February 2013 · Points: 0 Probably varies state to state. In NH when my girlfriend moved in with me and wanted to register her car (its registered locally via town offices and she was already a NH resident) I really had to go her a notarized letter stating she lived with me. Otherwise you need a pay stub, utility pecker, etc with an address. For five winters I lived in Colorado and couldn't even hire a mail service office box to have mail forwarded since I wasn't a resident (was working remotely). Solved that problem by having all my post forwarded to "full general delivery" with my proper noun and it got held at the post function for pick up. Flag Quote |

Fill out your address with the PO box just remove the words "PO box" from the address, just include the actual number. Flag Quote

Due south Dakota, Florida and Texas are all pretty popular states considering they let mail service forwarding of commuter's license and such and have no country income tax. Forrad all your postal service to information technology. Register your car and insurance to your new PO (pretty sure you can do this in CA). Don't worry nigh changing your address on your licence unless it is going to expire presently. I've herd of people using the mail service office address as in that location residency. Fill out your accost with the PO box only remove the words "PO box" from the address, only include the bodily number. In my experience, the post office volition crave proof of a physical accost before they will allow you open a PO box (charter/rental agreement, utility bill, etc.). Do you accept a friend who will allow you use his/her address for things like receiving post, registering your car, etc., etc.? Ideally you could use the friend's address to open a PO box, then yous could utilise the PO box for everything. Flag Quote |

Then all yous have is storage fee(cars safe) and then when your ready to drive it go to dmv and tell them it'south been garaged for x time and sign the reg. exemption waiver and re-annals it. For case, if you lot will be in BFE, Montana, your address would be: Joe Dirt They volition concord it for a certain amount of time (which is a adept length of time, although I'm not certain virtually the duration exactly). I didn't take the time to read through anybody'southward responses, so if this was mentioned, sorry. Flag Quote

It would be worth paying for the smallest possible PO Box in BFE, MT, they're not that much money. Flag Quote

Not sure nigh this. Similar someone said earlier, you need to have proof of residency in the area to get a PO Box. If y'all are dirtbagging, yous don't want to spend money on stuff unrelated to climbing. General delivery is complimentary, and while they will merely hold things for that length of fourth dimension, you lot tin continue to get packages sent via GD as long as you want. I take been living in my surface area for a while at present. For the beginning twelvemonth, nosotros used GD. The merely reason we got a PO Box is because in one case we started renting proper we were able to go it for gratis. Flag Quote

Some states will crave you to notify them when the car is put into storage, otherwise you volition exist liable for all the late/overdue registration fees. This is to stop people from driving unregistered cars around for a while, then re-registering them when they get some cash or all the unpaid parking tickets have aged out of the DMV's records. UPS offers "Private Mail" boxes that you lot can setup without a concrete address, yous just demand 2 different id'southward (i.e DL, Passport, phone bill ect.). Its fifty-fifty better than a USPS PO box, they give y'all a physical address rather than a number and you lot tin can ship anything to it. It'southward primarily for businesses just not limited to. They are non technically a Mail service Part Box and could probably pass for a legit residence address. They won't care well-nigh your living arrangements, as long as you pay them on fourth dimension. Most of the addresses for them won't even indicate what the place is, it volition look almost like an flat accost: 123 Sesame Street, #301, etc. Flag Quote

Most of the addresses for them won't even indicate what the identify is, it will await almost like an flat address: 123 Sesame Street, #301, etc. There are online companies that can exercise this for you. Basically, you pay them $20 a month or so, they give you an address, and any mail that comes to them is scanned and you can view it online. And then you can choose to destroy the mail or have it forwarded elsewhere. I did this for the first year I was dirtbagging. Nevertheless, as with a PO box, y'all typically need two forms of ID to prove yous are who you say you are. Later the first year I learned that paying for any type of address or PO box is a waste product of money. Simply employ your parent's address as your official address, or any accost you have on your commuter's license. Registering a vehicle tin can be easy or hard depending on the state. Some states allow you register a vehicle out of state with no issues, others not so much. If I recall right, Montana is a country which is known to exist very friendly to people who are mobile in nature. You can merits MT every bit your legal residence without ever stepping foot in the state. Y'all might want to await into the MT DMV. Search RV forums. Tons of info on this on RV forums. | | Happiegrrrl · Aug eleven, 2015 · Gunks · Joined Dec 2005 · Points: 60 The accost thing is probably the near difficult for me. I've lived in a place with no mailing address for 6 years and though I actually get very fiddling mail service, one often must provide an address when doing things. Maybe for some people this wont come up much, but for me it does. I purchase art supplies, and demand return address for items I accept sold and am shipping out. One does not want to be "changing address" on any sort of regular basis. Internet passwords are bad plenty to remember, just I would forget which address I used if I hadn't had the same ane for the elapsing. It is a local friend'due south address, and they hold the mail in a bin and I pick information technology upwardly on occasion. If I am "expecting something,"9debit/credit card renewal, insurance bill of fare, tax data etc.) I effort to requite a heads upwards and follow up. Nonetheless, there have been a few times when an expected item goes missing. Sucks. I would suggest using the dwelling of a reliable relative who will probable stay at the same residence long tern, if possible. When I am on the road, if I take someone whose residence I can have items sent to, I ask their permission and practise that. But I do non assume their address. I accept it sent to me "Intendance Of" the person at their accost. A post part box is nice, simply you lot demand someone to go check it as needed. And yes, the postal service office requires proof of residence to have the box. Equally said, mail from a PO box or address tin become forwarded to a different address as needed. But having this done through the postal service office(Mail Forwarding, not the same as Change of Address forwarding) is not cheap. Helpful Hint: Do any y'all can via online(assuming yous regularly access it). Larn about security and how to avoid getting your accounts compromised. Krebsonsecurity.com is a blog that is lay-person friendly(and hilarious or scary, depending, when hackers start posting in the comments) and can provide a adept education Flag Quote |
